Hans-Eberhard Stein harbors a passion for fries and Belgium! These two stand at the center of his work, where they intersect with fish, beers, lemons, glasses of water, and more—simple beauties of everyday life. Alongside his oil paintings on canvas and cardboard, Hans Stein creates three-dimensional triptychs, an innovative technique that echoes his scenography practice.
A graduate in art and design from the University of Wuppertal (North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany), Hans-Eberhard Stein dedicated himself to artistic creation from an early age. Since 1998, he has worked internationally as a scenographer and designer of ephemeral architectures.
His travels and encounters fuel his inspiration. For him, painting suspends time, serving as a counterbalance to the frenzy of the exhibition and design world. He primarily works in oil on canvas or cardboard, often incorporating graphic elements with colored pencil or watercolor.

Fries, fish, beers, lemons, glasses of water... His series or cycles reveal both a collector's taste and a quest for visual memory. Motifs drawn from daily life thus gain a second life, between homage and reinvention. The presence of fries in his universe is no coincidence: it reflects a dual passion, for the fry itself and for Belgium.

His creative process has led to a unique presentation form. Instead of a traditional hanging juxtaposing works from the same cycle, he designs "triptychs in depth": paintings arranged in successive layers, cut out and superimposed like theater sets. In these stagings—sometimes titled "DiePommes" or "DieKathedrale"—the viewer becomes part of the work, invited to move certain elements and extend the artist's creative gesture.
"Frittenfantasie" at Home Frit' Home is Hans-Eberhard Stein's first exhibition in Belgium.
